*This is a critical moment to stand with Haiti, denounce U.S. attacks on
Haiti's sovereignty, and defend Haiti's popular movement - one of the
world's most important struggles for human rights. Tens of thousands of
Haitians are facing tear gas and live ammunition almost daily in
demonstrations to demand free and fair elections and an end to foreign
intervention. The power of this movement has forced postponement of a
fraudulent presidential "run-off" scheduled for January 24th.

*Join Haiti Action Committee for a lively and informative program
marking 25 years since the inauguration of Haiti's first
democratically-elected President, Jean-Bertrand Aristide - the candidate
of Haiti's popular movement /Lavalas/ - which ushered in 10 years of
democracy, hope and progress in Haiti. It is 12 years since the Feb. 29,
2004 US-backed coup d'etat that overthrew Aristide and the progressive
/Lavalas/ government. The United States and its allies installed a U.N.
military occupation of Haiti that continues to this day.

/Fanmi Lavalas /continues to accompany Haiti's people in their fight for
human rights and freedom.

*_FANMI LAVALAS PRESS RELEASE, February 8, 2016_
*The /Fanmi Lavalas/ political organization congratulates the people of
Haiti for their resistance and determination in the struggle to demand
their rights despite the terrible situation of hunger, high cost of
living, crime in their daily lives.

If today Martelly is compelled to leave office, it is because of the
courage of the people, it is thanks to popular mobilization. It was the
massive [electoral] fraud that occurred on August 9 and October 25 that
is at the foundation of the crisis, the solution must be institutional
and constitutional and must take into consideration the demands of the
people. There is no solution without the people. /Fanmi Lavalas/
continues to demand:

i) a provisional government of consensus with the mission to keep the
state apparatus functioning, to begin addressing the social problems of
the people and to organize elections that are credible, honest and
democratic in the country;
ii) an independent commission of verification to shed light on the
elections of August 9th and October 25th. The ensuing electoral process
will depend on the findings and recommendations of the commission.
iii) a new provisional electoral council.

/Fanmi Lavalas/ continues to believe in dialogue between Haitians with
Haitians to resolve this electoral crisis once and for all.
/
Fanmi Lavalas/ urges all democratic and popular forces to continue to
mobilize until all of our demands are satisfied. The mobilization must
not stop.
/
Lavalas/ is - in unity there is strength
