FBI arrests 65-year-old man in Puerto Rico wanted 
in 1 of largest robberies in US history

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico ­ The FBI says it has 
arrested a man in Puerto Rico who was sought in 
one of the largest robberies in U.S. history and 
who had been on the run for 25 years.

The FBI says it arrested 65-year-old Norberto 
Gonzalez Claudio on Tuesday in the southern mountain town of Cayey.

Gonzalez Claudio was sought in connection with 
the 1983 armored truck robbery of about $7 million in Connecticut.

His brother Avelino Gonzalez Claudio pleaded 
guilty last year to conspiring to rob the Wells 
Fargo Armored Service Corp. and to transporting the stolen money to Mexico.

Authorities have said the robbery was committed 
to help fund the activities of Los Macheteros, a 
clandestine organization that seeks Puerto Rican independence.
