YES TO ARISTIDE'S RETURN - NO TO FRAUDULENT ELECTIONS

As the 7th anniversary of Haiti's Feb. 29, 2004
coup d'etat approaches, the United States
continues to stifle the will of Haiti's people,
block promised aid for post-earthquake
reconstruction, and impose foreign military
occupation. A common theme that resonates louder
than ever around the world, as we see also in
Egypt, is people's desire for true democracy.

Thanks to ongoing mobilization of the grassroots
in Haiti and international solidarity, a
diplomatic passport has just been issued to
former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who
remains in forced exile in South Africa. Yet at
the same time, US State Department spokesperson
P.J. Crowley stated that the US does not want
Aristide to return to Haiti until after the March
20 run-off of what we know was a deeply flawed
presidential election last November. When asked
about Aristide returning, Crowley has said "Haiti
does not need, at this point, any more burdens." (!)

It is crucial to keep up the pressure and support
the demands we hear consistently from the grassroots in Haiti:

--Former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide must be
allowed to return to Haiti immediately

--The fraudulent November 2010 election must be
annulled and new elections that are free, fair
and inclusive of all parties (including Haiti's
largest party, Fanmi Lavalas) must be scheduled

We believe that our actions should target the US
Government, since it is ultimately US officials
in the State Department who are pressuring the
United Nations, OAS and the Government of Haiti
to act in ways that undermine democracy and
severely oppress the people of Haiti.

Please call President Obama (202-456-1111) and
Secretary of State Clinton (202-647-4000), as
well as your member of Congress (202-224-3121)
and ask them to support these two demands.
