Haiti Limericks
A priest Jean Bertram Aristide
Worked against hatred and greed
His rise was dramatic
On a wave democratic
Would Haiti's poor people be freed?
But the world is a treacherous place
It's not enough just to say grace
There were murderous thugs
Under CIA rugs
Trained to destroy and debase.
Undoubtedly errors were made
But respect to the truth must be paid
Unlike Bush, the selected,
Aristide was elected-
Now he's kidnapped in USA raid.
Mass crimes of these cops of the world
As more bombs and landmines are hurled
Violent aggression
Territorial transgression
As the blood letting tide is unfurled.
What this means is more misery
For a people of great history
It's outrageous and wrong
Same imperial song
When at last will brave Haiti be free?
As written and read by Lincoln Bergman on KPFA, March 1, 2004
(50th anniversary of the Puerto Rican Nationalists' attack on Congress)
