Dear Friends of the Cuban Five. René González has sent the following
greetings for the 2005 New Year on behalf of the Cuban Five to their
supporters around the world:


December 2004

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Another year of struggle for our freedom has gone by; one in which the hopes
of winning justice didn't seem unfounded, judging by the oral hearing for
appeal just three months into the year.

At the end it hasn't happened yet, and at least for us these twelve months
have gone by like a whisper. I hope it hasn't been like that for you, and
that you have been able to live each moment free from the speedy pace imposed
on us by the monotonous jail life.

Anyway, faster or slower, it's been another intense period, during which we
have been part of the prowess of our people in its irreducible fight for its
sovereignty, and its unceasing struggle to build out of ours the humane
society which inspired, first and foremost, the magnificent event that was
the Cuban Revolution.

Our people, for its part, hasn't taken a step back in its fight for justice
for us; nevertheless, this has been a journey that neither the Cuban people 
nor we
have made alone.

In these twelve months your support has been with us. Your letters and
messages of encouragement have reminded us every day that love knows
no borders, that it is worth being defended and that everywhere in the world
there are human beings who justify our sacrifice. In a universe upon which
ignorance, insensitivity, violence and egoism are imposed by atrociously
sophisticated means, people like you remind us that the gift of reason and of
applying that reason to human betterment is not a wasted miracle.

That's why I haven't wanted to let the opportunity of the new year pass by
without writing to you this humble message of gratitude and appreciation,
gratitude and appreciation that will never be enough to express the high
esteem you deserve from me, but that come sincerely from my heart, to
endure forever.

I wish you a very happy 2005, full of joy, of happiness and personal as well
as familial accomplishments but, above all, full of the unique satisfaction
which - a privilege that generous souls enjoy - grows from the pleasure of 
doing good
and of fighting, with courage and sensitivity, for a better and possible
world.

Queridos amigos de los Cinco Cubanos, René González ha transmitido, de
parte de los Cinco Cubanos, el siguiente mensaje de felicitaciones para el
año nuevo, a los amigos por todo el mundo que apoyan a los cinco héroes:

Diciembre del 2004

Querido(a) Hermano(a):

Ha transcurrido otro año de lucha por nuestra libertad; uno en que las
esperanzas de que se nos hiciera justicia en breve no parecían infundadas, a
juzgar por la celebración de la vista oral de apelación a solo tres meses de
comenzado.

Al final no ha ocurrido, y al menos para nosotros estos doce meses se han
ido en un soplo. Espero que no haya sido así para usted, y que haya podido
vivir cada momento sin la velocidad que impone la monotonía de un régimen
carcelario.

De cualquier manera, más o menos rápido, ha sido otro período intenso, en
el que hemos sido partícipes de las proezas de nuestro pueblo en su
irreductible batallar por su soberanía, y en su incesante lucha por hacer de
la nuestra la sociedad humana que inspiró, en primer lugar, el hecho magnífico
de la Revolución Cubana.

Nuestro pueblo, a su vez, no ha dado un paso atrás en su lucha por que se
nos haga justicia; no obstante, esta ha sido una jornada que ni el pueblo
cubano ni nosotros hemos transitado solos.

En estos doce meses nos ha acompañado el apoyo de usted. Sus cartas y
mensajes de aliento nos han recordado cada día que el amor no tiene
fronteras, que vale la pena defenderlo y que en cualquier lugar del mundo
hay seres humanos que justifican nuestro sacrificio. En un universo al que se
le imponen por medios atrozmente sofisticados la ignorancia, la
insensibilidad, la violencia y el egoísmo, personas como usted nos recuerdan
que el don de razonar y de aplicar esa razón al mejoramiento humano no es
un milagro desperdiciado.

Es por eso que no he querido dejar pasar la ocasión del fin de año sin
enviarle este modesto mensaje de gratitud y aprecio; gratitud y aprecio que
nunca serán suficientes para expresarle el alto concepto que me merece,
pero que salen sinceramente de mi corazón para perdurar por siempre.

Le deseo un muy feliz 2005, lleno de dicha, de felicidad y realizaciones
personales y familiares pero, sobre todo, colmado de la satisfacción única
que, privilegio de las almas generosas, emana del placer de hacer el bien y
de luchar, con valentía y sensibilidad, por un mundo mejor y posible.
