*The Akoma Ensemble: A Tribute to Master Artist Danongan Kalanduyan

This concert is a tribute to the spirit of master artist Danongan 
Kalanduyan, who since the 1970s lived in San Francisco and the Bay Area 
and taught literally thousands of students. He was a master artist in 
the Philippines tradition of Kulintang ensemble music, a symbol of the 
people's culture of the Southern Philippines. He transitioned in October 

This performance is an opportunity to be in an intimate venue with 
world-class musicians and some special guests. Please come promptly as 
there is limited seanng.

royal hartigan is a percussionist, pianist, and tap dancer who has 
studied and performed the musics of Asia, Africa, Europe, West Asia, and 
the Americas as well as African American blues, gospel, funk, hip-hop, 
and jazz traditions

Hafez Modirzadeh is a saxophonist/theorist and has performed, recorded, 
published and lectured internationally on original cross-cultural 
musical concepts and is currently a Professor of Creative Music Studies 
at SF State.
