Cafe, 2801 Telegraph Avenue (at Stuart), Berkeley. The event is free;
donations will be requested to benefit the SF8. Great salads and fair
trade coffee available at this activist-friendly cafe.

Rory Kennedy's groundbreaking film asks the questions "How did
torture become an accepted practice at Abu Ghraib? How could ordinary
American soldiers come to engage in such monstrous acts?" The
filmmaker interviews soldiers who participated and Iraqis who endured
the torture.

Torture in United States jails is not new. 34 years ago, murder
charges against three members of the Black Panther Party were
dismissed because their confessions to killing a San Francisco cop
were obtained through torture. But now, eight Black elders are on
trial for the same 1971 killing, based on the same torture-produced
"evidence." Richard Brown of the SF8, freed on bail after more than
seven months in the SF County Jail, will join us to talk about their
case and how it relates to the torture at Abu Ghraib and other U.S. facilities.
