Eight former Black Panthers were arrested January 23rd, 2007 in
California, NewYork and Florida on 30 year old charges related to the 1971
killing of a San Francisco police officer. Similar charges were thrown out
after it was revealed that police used torture to extract false
confessions from some of these same men who were arrested in New Orleans
in 1973.
This event will feature a talk and Q&A session by Derrick Jensen,a
longtime activist, speaker and author whose works include
The Culture of Make Believe, A Language Older than Words, Welcome to the
Machine: Science, Surveillance, and the Culture of Control, and most
recently Endgame for which he was named the Press Action person of the
year. His writings consider injustice, oppression and the overwhelming
assault on the natural world, and explore the part our technologized and
industrial civilization has to play in these atrocities. For more
information about Derrick Jensen please visit

SF8 committee member Penny Schoner will give an update on the case and
offer ways we can show support.
All proceeds from this event will go to benefit the San Francisco 8.
